Audio: Common Speaks On Drake Diss

This s past weekend Drake performed a great set at 106FM’s Cali Christmas but just before he left the stage, he went on a mini vent that left people wondering if he was taking a shot at common. He told the concertgoers:

I will never stop doing this for ya’ll. I don’t give a f*ck if you have something to say to me. Say it to my muthaf*ckin’ face. Just cause I sing don’t make me no b-tch

Common, who ironically performed that night with Big Sean, recently released a track titled ‘Sweet’, where he takes shots at rappers who sing. Since he references ‘Frank Sinatra’ and Drake channeled Sinatra in a 2010 MTV Video Music Awards promo, fans considered it to be a direct diss to Drizzy.

Y’all soft motherf–kers, singing all around me man, la la la/ You ain’t motherf–kin’ Frank Sinatra/Uh, lil’ b*tch…Sweet Ass Muthaf*cker

Common hit up the Tony Sculfield and The Morning Riot show early this morning and offered up his response to Drake taking offense to his record. He told his hometown morning show:

I made a song that’s definitely a Hip-Hop song; in hip-hop it’s like stepping in the ring. Rap is a contact sport so I talked about there’s cats that are soft and sweet. Drake felt offended and it was directed toward him so he said, “Man, say it to my face.” My thing is I’m going to keep it hip-hop and stay on that tip but if he falls in that category then so be it. I’m not going to hold my tongue like I say in the song.

I look at it like this, when Jay-Z made ‘DOA,’ I don’t think he specifically was like “I’m going to write this song about T-Pain” but T-Pains fits in that category so he might felt offended. At the end of the day, it’s all hip-hop.
