With the passing of Hip-Hop Icons Tupac Shakur and the Notorious BIG, there was an obvious void in the Hip-Hop game. Jay-Z set off his “Takeover” of Hip-Hop music and culture releasing “The Blueprint” Album. Coincidentally “The Blueprint” was released on September 11, 2001, certifying Jay-Z’s claim to the throne as the King of New York. “The new Source Magazine is honored to celebrate Jay-Z’s album “The Blueprint,” and those we lost in the 9/11 attacks. R.I.P. and much respect.”-L. Londell McMillan, prominent attorney and publisher of The Source.
“After his classic 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, ignited the streets, dazzled the critics, but didn’t move enough units, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter scrapped his bad marketing plan for a one-album discography and decided to drop a new masterful work each and every year. He emerged center stage with a fervent desire to be #1 in the post “Pac-Biggie” era. No MC ever wanted the throne as much as Hov. If consistency kills, he was the Son of Sam, and by the time he got to his sixth album, his frustrated competitors were firing shots back.
