Trends:Spring/summer 2010 clothes:key looks

As you all know we live for fashion and here are some trends to follow or even try for 2010. Stay tuned by the end of this week we'll have you ready for next year.....ciao ;)

Hot pants & boy shorts
If ever there was a time to hit the gym, it's this Spring. Hemlines have crept up to shorter than short; in fact reaching the negative. Hot pants, boy shorts, and tap pants are all variations on this shorter-than-short style, which in many cases reveal more than just one's legs.

Knee high & over the knee socks
Knee high socks - as well as over-the-knee and thigh high socks - are back as a trend, and the options on how to wear them are many. From the sporty to the sparkly, to layerings of socks over tights; a great pair of socks can add volumes to an outfit.

Future warrior
The military and tribal trends collide to become this fierce fashion trend. Ancient civilisations come to life in leather tunics, metal plating, and war paint. Unequivocally fearless and with room for endless creativity, the main criteria for the modern warrior is confidence.

High dress splits.
It will probably come as no surprise that the most knock-out examples of thigh-high dress splits were on the Versace runway. After all, infusing pure sex into a dress is a Versace speciality.

Other prominent examples came from Pucci - breezy, free flowing, and ultimately sensual - and Lanvin, whose draping Grecian styles were given an injection of thigh-baring modernity.

Jumpsuit and Playsuit
Jumpsuit & Playsuit Styles
Overalls: while we saw denim overalls on the Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2010 catwalk, this was really an exception. We don't expect denim overalls to take off as part of this trend in 2010.

Evening: a new take on relaxed glamour, no-one has nailed this quite like Alber Elbaz for Lanvin. Single-shouldered and sequin covered jumpsuits were a striking alternative to the traditional evening dress.

Tailored: smart and sophisticated, a tailored playsuit can be office-ready as well as dressed up for day or night. Look for crisper fabrics, cuffed shorts, and cinched in waists - a la Karl Lagerfeld.

Loose and flowing: the perfect take for Spring/Summer, this look has a dash of hippy - working best when combined with soft floral prints. Fabrics should be free-flowing, legs wide and long. The likes of Roberto Cavalli and Etro produced the perfect examples.

Sporty: Julien MacDonald, Lacoste and Walter all took sportier options, in line with Spring 2010's sports trend; from hoods and zips to simple cotton jersey fabrics.

Basic: while some designers have gone for prints and intricate detailing, the likes of Stella McCartney and Givenchy presented the ideal basic options. A more versatile wardrobe staple, go for black, white or nude colours and simple straight cuts.

Patterned / printed pants
Stripes, florals, graphic prints and abstract shapes. Bright and bold, or subtle and sophisticated. Almost anything goes when it comes to trouser prints in 2010.

And cuts? Again, the choice is yours. Skinny like Balenciaga or free flowing like Roberto Cavalli are both strong styles. Some takes, like those from DKNY and Etro, are so relaxed they fall more under the category of loungewear (further blurring the line between underwear and outerwear). But the style we expect to see more of on the streets - at least more immediately - is a toned-down take on the harem pant, relaxed at the hips and tapered in to the ankles.

Avoid: boot-cuts and flares; fabrics that are too heavy. Lighter fabrics work best for Spring.
